about

This 3-track album captures a band of three severe thunderstorms which passed directly over the rural Breckland village of Saham Hills, Norfolk in the UK on the afternoon of 16 August 2020. The three storms were recorded at 14:04 hrs, 16:22 hrs and 17:32 hrs. All tracks start off reasonably quietly as the storm approaches and quickly develop into a cacophony of sound with nearly continuous rolling thunder, and at times torrential rain.

A special storm-proof enclosure was used to record the storms, effectively placing the listener outside and exposed to the full elements of the storms and torrential rain.

There is no layering, looping, or use of sampled or synthetic sounds; these are a real-time recordings, enabling the full effects of the natural environment and storms to be experienced.

Being natural soundscapes, these include what some may consider as man-made 'noise', so don't be concerned if you hear passing vehicles, voices, aircraft overflights, farming activities, church bells, bird-scarers, shotguns, clicks, clonks and strange things which go 'bump' in the night; those sounds are what you would have heard, had you been there at the time of the recording.
